What Is The Trick To Creating
Effective Polls And Surveys?
Research continues to show that members will complete product/service surveys, especially brief questionnaires and polls. What you may be surprised to learn is that they will also complete longer, more detailed and more intimate surveys as long as the
questions are easy to understand and answer, and they feel empowered, listened to, and important.
For informal direct mail and online surveys, you may be able to do it yourself, depending on your staff capabilities and available time. However, there is a science and an art to constructing a valid questionnaire, especially when you need to go beyond simply counting votes. With good software or professional help, you can establish rating and scale indexes, create pattern and trend identification filters, generate poll and survey reports, and export specific data for further analysis.
The Structure Is Key
The questions you ask must be concise and simple in structure. Test the questions on your staff. If a question is generally misunderstood or confusing, rewrite it. The key is to keep it simple. If you need a more complex statistical model, it’s better to let the professionals handle it. Checking the pulse of your membership and potential members is only valuable when you have accurate information and analysis.
Note: A formal and comprehensive member survey is recommended every three to five years, depending on your credit union's performance, productivity and the stability of your membership base.
